Want the secret to a satisfying snack? These healthy dips for kids are a great way to make fresh fruits and veggies more fun!

If your kids aren’t reaching for their raw carrot sticks at snack time, here’s the ticket: add a dip! Dips are a great way to help kids, especially picky eaters, eat a variety of foods. Just like a tortilla chip is 10x more delicious with homemade guacamole dip, it’s more than okay to jazz up sliced fruit with a fun sauce.

The ultimate dippable snack: apples and peanut butter! Not only is it tastier than eating an apple on its own, but eating fruit with a protein and healthy fat-rich dip or spread will help keep kids satiated and energized for longer.

Whether you’re putting together a snack board with strawberries and pretzels for an after school get-together or your goal is to get your kid(s) to eat a healthy snack before soccer practice, dips make plain fruits and veggies taste a whole lot better.

Our Favorite Dips

While I certainly don’t make a fancy kids charcuterie board every day of the week, I do like to offer a variety of healthy options for the kids to choose from and encourage them to eat fresh snacks over packaged when I can (this doesn’ t always works – lol!). Mazen loves anything chocolate or peanut butter, and Birch loves anything dipped in ketchup (and I mean anything!).

Today I’m sharing an easy dip recipe plus a round-up of both sweet and savory dips that I found across the web. They’re all simple to make with real food ingredients and tons of kid-friendly flavors. There is something that every kid (and adult) will love!

Almond Butter Fluff Dip

Ingredients

I came up with this super simple dip made up of yogurt, almond butter, and chocolate chips (with a touch of cinnamon) as a way to serve a snack plate. After years of whipping peanut butter in whole Greek yogurt to make a super fluffy, frosting-like whip, I tried it with almond butter (Birch’s favorite) and added mini chocolate chips for visual temptation: what child isn’t drawn to bits of chocolate ?

99% Good For You

This recipe is 99% good for you with protein and calcium from the yogurt and healthy fats from the almond butter. Feel free to use peanut or sunflower seed butter instead!

What To Serve With Your Fluff

  • Sliced apples or pears
  • Carrots or celery (it’s like peanut butter + celery!)
  • Animal crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Crackers
  • Graham crackers (spread between two for a “cookie sandwich”)
  • A spoon. I had the rest of ours for dessert!

The big kids thought it was great!
