Fitness for teens takes focus at new Peoria facility

PEORIA (25 News) – There’s a new fitness offering at Landmark Recreation Center, with the goal of getting younger residents the exercise they need.

The Underground Training Center opened last Monday, attached to the facility’s bowling alley. Programs are geared towards training teens and adults across the Peoria area, with specific programs for kids as young as 13, along with personal training offerings. That’s on top of catered regimens for specific sports, just a few of the ways they’re looking to get residents fit.

Director Ishmael Hicks sees it as a way to integrate a fresh addition on a historic facility. For him, it’s an opportunity to bring an easier form of fitness to Peoria.

“What this does is this brings in a new life, this brings in the youth, this gives them some structure,” he says, “and it’s building a new foundation to already add upon the historic history that Landmark has for health and fitness.”

You can also rent out the facility for activities like soccer and basketball. If you want to learn more, you can visit the official page here.
